Psychometric Tests - Introduction
Psychometric tests are increasingly forming part of recruitment and development
processes, helping organisations to identify talent and developing its full potential.
The term “psychometric” refers to the scientific features of reliability, validity
and standardisation that are inherent in these tools.

specific skills. They typically fall into 3 main categories:
- Personality profiling measures typical behaviour and looks at how individuals relate
to each other, deal with emotions (both their own and others), stress, their
level of motivation etc. Whilst personality profiling is used extensively in selection,
it is a very powerful tool in development.
- Aptitude and Ability testing assesses an individuals ability in a particular skill,
typically verbal, numerical and critical thinking skills. These tests look at both
potential and current ability.
- 360 feedback provides a wide picture of performance gathered from a variety of sources.
